Starting the IVA Process

Well I have finally got to the stage where I need to apply for the right to apply for the IVA (only in the UK!).

  • Engine is in and kinda runs
  • Prop, diff and nearside drive shaft, hub and brakes are in
  • Roll bar is in

Left to do

  • Nearside drive shaft, hub and brakes
  • Interior trim and all the IVA bits
  • Tidy up the leads, coolant pipes etc
  • Complete wiring for lights etc once wings are on (suspect this will be more time consuming than I think!)
  • Put wings on!
  • Fit windscreen washer bottle (struggling to accept I have to drill the bodywork directly for this
  • Put clutch and brake fluids in and bleed (alwasy my favourite job)

Lots of paperwork of course but the pack from Michaela at Caterham Gatwick was part completed so hopefully my normal lack of attention to detail wont be too much of an issue.

…….and 30 years later I started

So I have finally started the journey to building my Caterham.

Having had this on my to do list for 30 years, a few weeks ago a whim took me to Caterham South where having been plied with biscuits I finally signed on the dotted line. It would have saved me a packet to have done it 25 years ago. The prices were smaller as was my bulk which now necessitated me ordering lowered floors and the wide chassis. An expensive option and I am sure discriminatory against the larger gent or lady 🙂

Having driven the 270 with LSD and R pack I ended up ordering the 310 with S pack (another unfortunate side effect of the ageing process I fear – why no heated seat option??). I did opt for the removable screen so it will at least look a bit more hardcore on the odd baking hot day in the UK.

Car is due beginning of September. Meanwhile……….

Garage looks like this

Wife looks like this

A lot of work to do on both I fear
